Edward VIII reigned for less than a year - so there aren't a lot of post boxes bearing his cipher. This is one of the most common version of those that survive (around 120 still in use).

Someone with an impressive eye for history decided to do this. It's the sort of thing you might expect to get on a 25th anniversary casting or one celebrating a major event - not so much on the introduction of a radical redesign of the UK pillar box. It is not an add-on the 'plaque' is part of the main body casting.
