Nicely designed letterbox. Leave it to the Italians to make a pretty letterbox.

November box - there is a somewhat bizarre craze for knitting 'toppers' for post boxes, often themed. This one is for Remembrance Day.

No knitted topper, and for the rest also not looking too good. But still in operation somewhere in Antwerp

Probably the oldest post box on UK streets - Plymouth. The design of this one dates back to 1853, the year pillar boxes furst appeared on UK streets, and it's the earlist known variant of the design. However, it is no longer in use and has been painted green, which was the colour used for a decade or two in the 1860s/70s.

Hoaward_S has noted that I don't say where my post box pictures are taken - this is habitual because rarer boxes are attractive to thieves - even pillar boxes have been stolen. I have plenty of pictures of posts that used to hold the smaller 'lamp' boxes. The Royal Mail used to sell old boxes, so there are plenty around, making stolen boxes hard to trace on the used market. As dealers are asking £1,000s per box they make an attractive target for to the unscrupulous.

However, this one is unique and in a pretty well protected within a private development, so I reckon its safe enough.
