This is a subject that I have been working on for some time and just now starting to have some success with both my 70-400G and 70-200G.

A few more and then I want to see some others
70-200G

70-400G

Not a great job on my part, but I found this image very humorous.

They are all great shots, and the last one, fantastic actually because it takes a second look to work out and odd that the two guys are there next to an otherwise normal background with barge etc. That is definatly a place i would take a thermos of coffee or similar to and wait to get the shot, the aligators expect something to happen and they could well be right, especially as it is the time of year that herons are just learning how to fly (here at least).

Very impressive - both your skill and the IQ of the 70-400 and 70-200. With BIF, the more you practie, the "luckier" you get. I must admit that I'm envious of you having this wonderful opportunity. I also had a look at the images in the themed thread, and they were excellent as well.

May i ask you about 70-400G AF performance ? How about AF speed, tracking BIF towards you ?
Thanks

You are right...it appears that I am getting luckier the more I do this:)

I do wish I had more opportunities to visit places like this. I had to drive 6 hours to visit the rookery, so I only have a chance to do this once or twice per year. I am envious of anyone that lives in Florida..

And thank you and the others that I have posted responses. I find that I learn a great deal on these forums.

Jorge

I find the 70-400 to be a touch slower than the 70-200 in both speed and tracking, but they are both capable for BIF.I didn't try too many flying toward me, but I guess it would be as good as the 70-200. Over all I think the 70-400 is a wonderful photographic tool and I am happy that I have one. The 70-400 is more impressive than the 70-200 when both are wide open, but the 70-200 pulls ahead slightly when stopped down. The contrast and colors from both are similar and outstanding. I find it very well built and the color is fine with me because black in Georgia or Florida summers becomes ungodly hot.(The lens stays cooler than the camera)
