Thanks, Luis, I appreciate that. He (she? it?) is the boldest visitor at my feeder. I was roughly 5 feet away shooting this, and he just kept coming back (giving me an earful the whole time). His reward was all the seed he could eat. Fair trade.

Yeah, your advice does work well - even on older JPGs...those herons are "recycled" ones, so to speak.
Got some newer ones still in the camera, will try that on those, too.
I always wondered how you get such clarity and definition -
besides from having incredible timing !
