Very impressive shots Luis. That plugin looks very useful as well. Do you shoot RAW or jpg (you've probably mentioned it before - but I have a shocking memory)?

Do not resist PS CS4. Camera raw 5.1 graduated filter and vignetting then in PS quick select and brighted the bird.

TBMike, I like the effect, but the color of the gorget is creeping toward violet. Pretty soon we'll have a Costa's instead of an Anna's.

Well that was a quick and easy just to get sky effect. Wasn't sure about the birds colors it did seem to go more saturated..
OK I did one more adjust on just the head to get it more red. PS I love Okapi's Grebe at top of page! Edited by TBMike - 13 November 2008 at 16:29 |

Nice one TBMike. I've been thinking about getting PS4 for my Mac, since the new features look quite interesting.
My impression is that the jpeg I posted has the red channel nearly clipped, so any adjustment will cause a shift to magenta. I guess you would need my original RAW file to get the right colors in the gorget (answering to Frank, I shoot everything in RAW). Here is a link to another version with more brightness on the bird and saturation on the sky. Anyway I am not that good at PP, I could spend much more time on variations of the same shot before I get it right. ![]() |

I got a call on a rare gull for our area, Franklin Gull. I went over and got a few (140+) as the bird was cooperative and came to feed with the laughing gulls. Also a couple Ring Bills have returned for the winter.

For #1 a vertical shot may have been better as there is a reflection with no body at the top. Also try to position your main subject somewhat off-center. Suggest you look at Photo Assignment #1 for starters. Bob J will soon be posting an "intro" to composition. A vertical format may have helped with #2 as well where it would have got the legs in shot. I wasn't planning to go, but I wound up at the goose races...
