Thanks for the comments so far!

@twb119: all of them were taken at 300mm. 1st one at f4, 2nd at f6.7, 3rd at f8.

@bharnois: good one ... I should try putting a "petal" hood on a macro lens!

Yes many many excellent pictures. Great talent and photography. The pictures do not begin to show how difficult these are to take and the skill of the photographer behind the camera.
Very well done !

Some of my favorites:
HPG - small bird
Chthoniid - Gannets
royd63uk - open mouthed gull
wross - grossbeak
tpetpe - owk
and last but not least maskedman and his hummers

Not a good shot by any means, but the story is what I think you'll find interesting....this robin makes her nest each spring on a bush next to my deck. Two years ago, she had 4 chicks and only one lived long enough to leave the nest.

Last year she had 4 chicks again, and either a squirrel or a cat had them for lunch.

This year, she again laid 4 eggs very early on. It got cold for a few days, and she threw the eggs out herself. Now she's got 5 eggs and is guarding the nest with great care. Today the temps are in the low 50's and it is raining....it is really raw out there.....I managed to sneak up on her and quickly snap this....then i stayed there for about 10 minutes and she never moved (normally, she would fly to the nearest tree and start chirping at you). It was as if she was telling me....look man....I already lost the other batch, and it's cold....don't you have something else you could be doing ?.

Anyway.....I hope she succeeds this time around. Nature is an amazing thing.

Enjoy the story at least.
