Here's one that was taken at the wrong shutter speed, but it turned out to be an interesting effect...

A100; Sony 75-300mm (85mm); ISO 400; f4.5; 1/80th

They didn't hang around for a second shot

Cheers... Brian

Hello all,

There are some beautiful shots on here as usual and I've been intending to post a couple for a while but never plucked up courage, worried about being put to shame but anyway here goes :

1. Hoopoe in our garden - a200 and Sigma 400 5.6 (non apo & manual focus because the a200 has threaded the auto focus)

2. White Cheeked Bulbul, again in the garden after a dip in the pool -
a200 and I think an old vivitar 28-200 which has since been consigned to bin as it fell to pieces

3. Red Vented Bulbul on the garden shed - a200 and Sigma 400 5.6

Critique is always welcome
Ta
Dan

ps Are these images big enough or am I doing soemthing wrong??

Hi Dan - welcome to Dyxum. I think that the quality of your images is fine. No need to be shy about posting them. That's what photography is all about. I would like to see them a bit bigger. I'd also like to see more hoopoe shots. Looks like a great subject.

Brian - great sense of motion. I like how the head is still whilst every other part of the body is moving.

Momech - impressive setup!

Here are today's shots.
I didn't see anything special, but it was nonetheless fun shooting the usual suspects.

1. Anna's Hummingbird

2. House Finch

3. White-crowned Sparrow

4. Yellow-crowned Sparrow

5. Canada Goose

6. Yellowlegs

7. ??? (shot in the shade at 1/100s, 560mm handheld, but supported on my knees)

8. Cedar Waxwing. I hadn't seen these in a while. They were up on a tree and refused to come down for a good shot.

Cheers,

Frank, thanks for the encouragement, as for the Hoopoes I didn't get many keepers (very nervous birds) and I've not seen them for at least six weeks I believe they are seasonal here, so maybe next year (and a new lens, hopefully!!)

Luis, beautiful as usual, but to say "nothing special" and post these is beyond me (no wonder it took me so long to pluck up the courage!!!)
but seriously all of you guys give people like me inspiration I need!!

Cheers

LOL.

Thank you guys. What I meant is that the subjects were the regular birds we find around here at this time of the year.
Still, I tried to make them look good for the audience.

Here are a few more that I liked from my outing yesterday.

Juvenile Brown Pelican

Juvenile Golden-crowned Sparrow

Horned Grebe in winter clothes - I blew the exposure on this one, but I like the reflection.

Luis, you think your horned grebe is the same specie as we have here, it's a picture taken now on this page?

Hi Okapi

The other day I searched the web and I think the bird you are referring to is called Great Crested Grebe.
See this link.

Apparently the Horned Grebe is called Slavonian Grebe in Europe.

My first relatively successful birds in flight shots. A way to go but we're off and running!

70-300G (first two) and 300/4 + 1.4xTC (third) on the A700 at 300mm. All are cropped but not greatly.

Egyptian Goose

Saddle-billed Stork

Augur Buzzard hunting

This one is not so successful, but I give myself credit for shooting for the moon!

It certainly is - that would be a very lost confused and hot Canadian Goose! Thanks. I replaced it with a more-at-home Egyptian Goose.
