Frankman, I particularly like your shot of the Cormorant. Simple composition and sharp, but they're all good.

Some lovely photos on this page. I shall not attempt to compete with the big birds but offer you this little chaffinch perched on the stone wall in our garden.

Frank, that Great Cormorant looks like he's wearing a fur coat!!!

The four little Corellas are posed beautifully.

Speaking of Cormorants:

"Waddya mean 'I'm not Black????"

Thanks for the information Ricardo - pretty impressive sharpness, especially considering 2 X TC. You've done well with MF. I just can't seem to MF.

Hi Frank glad you like it and as usual your set is impressive the 1* ,4* and 6* are top shots .

About your question:In the first 3 i have used the Sigma100-300f4EXDG + KenkoPro300 DG 2X(MF of course ).
The last one i used the Minolta 500 f/8.

Best regards
Ricardo

RE #5 -- I notice that two are talking and two are having a good listen.

Would that be a clue?

A nice set Ricardo - I particularly like the last 3. You have a good range of lenses at the long end. Which were these shot with? The sharpness and colours is excellent.

David - those do look like heavy crops, but the detail seems to have held up very well. Interesting when you said that you took the first from a car window. I've been able to get a lot closer to birds when I'm in a car than on on foot. They don't perceive the car as a threat. Strange.

Anyway, since I'm here, I may as well put up a few from this morning. It was a miserable cloudy morning. Most of these were iso 640 - 1000:

1. "I'm hungry"

2. "Got any more hair gel?"

3. A quick munch

4. So who's a pretty boy?

5. Can you tell the female corellas from the males?

6. Drip dry

7. Danger from above

Great photographs! That one spot on water in the stilt's open mouth needs to be cloned out to make it perfect. I've got to find some to photograph!!.

Pavel you said Iceland which is NA range so I grabbed my Shorebird Guide and sure enough it is a Black-Tailed Godwit. It is primarily European bird occasionally in NA side of Atlantic.

These are Tundra Swans which migrate through our area each spring on their way to the arctic. The first one is an old shot I took with a Maxxum 9/Minolta 600 f4 on Velvia 50, scanned on a Polaroid SprntScan 4000. These birds are hard to get close to; I shot this one with from my car, with the gear mounted on a Kirk window mount and Arca Swiss B2 ball head.

The next 3 were shot this past week with the same lens plus a 1.4x APO TC (effective length 840mm), and an a900, but in the case of the birds in flight, the images were cropped from a larger frame... I would guess the equivalent focal length would be over 2000mm. Atmospheric distortion is "clearly" playing a role in their lack of sharpness, but they do allow a glimpse of the way the birds move. These were shot at ISO 800, 1000 sec at f8, same ball head on a heavy Gitzo tripod.
