Frank, You make the impossible look easy! Getting crows against the sky WITH detail is a feat I've yet to master. #2 is my favorite despite loosing the top bird's right wing.

This is about all the attitude that I've had lately (breeding plumage and lots of showing off)

1. Northern Cardinal

A350; Sony 70-300G (180mm); ISO200; f7.1; 1/500th

I did have a chance to get some close-ups of a female Brown-headed Cowbird. She let me get to within 3-4 meters (while keeping a watchful eye on me of course). Her mate was in the dark folliage of a nearby tree. The light in the grass was a bit problematic as she seemed to prefer the shade and I had to bump the ISO to increase the shutter speed.

2. ISO 100 (1/60th)

3. ISO 200 (1/100th)

4. ISO 400 (1/400th)

5. ISO 400 (1/400th)

The last two were salvaged by a recently purchased version of Noise Ninja.

Cheers... Brian

In Florida its spring migration. Last Saturday several hundred birders descended on Ft. Desoto Park to see the migrants feasting in the Fig and Mulberry trees.

Great shots so far. TBMike, what lens do you use?

Here are the birds of prey I've managed to capture with the Minolta 100-400. I almost always run the ISO at 400 to get a crisp shot hand-held.

Excellent shots all.
Sparky lens is Minolta 400mm f4.5 G. It was one incredible day. The birds were in a feeding frenzy and ignoring the birders. We added 10 life birds to our list that day. I have a couple hundred more photos focused on wrong twig, no head, or bird moved etc.
Here's one a Kentucky Warbler bouncing along on the ground feeding The best of 20+ shots not in clear focus.

Tried a bit of birding myself. All taken with KM5D and Sigma 400/5,6 APO. Loads and loads of CA, I think...

This semi-arid zone honeyeater is a lifetimer for me. I got him yesterday in the heart of the Mallee scrub, just north of the Little Desert. They were in the last flowering native for miles.

White-fronted Honeyeater (Phylidonyris albifrons)

If you look at full-sized image, you will see that the tiny red spot just behinf the eye is actually composed of four small feathers - no biggewr than a millimetre. I love my 300/4!
