The midwest US version of the Kingfisher. Not as beautiful as the European Kingfishers posted on Dyxum but just as difficult to photo. They do not stay in one place very long.

Mum, the little kids are picking on me again!!!!
I'm not sure what this juvie Blue-faced Honeyeater is trying to do to the Whistling Kite - attack him, land on him, or mate with him! Thanks to Brandy for 'Bringing Home the Bacon' - quite literally - which tempted this big boy out of his roost. |

Southern Hemisphere does seem to have it all tied up! Love the colours and bokeh in the shot of the white breasted nuthatch. Great capture Brian. (My G lens arrives in 3 days (I hope) Can't wait to get my hands on it. Like the anticipation of a 5 year old at Christmas time!) Ianb Edited by ianb - 08 August 2009 at 07:24 |

Stan I'm shooting at Woodgate just south of Bundaberg, met up with Geardown who prompted me to post the following -:
The two frames taken before Richards great head on shot, I was to the side, didn't know which to focus on and the action was so fast I didn't get either one. Cheers Brandy. PS I have it from an expert [Richard's wife] that what I have been calling a Brahminy Kite [the brown ones, no white breast] has in fact been a Whistling Kite. [tail feathers are different.] |

Some more from the same shoot, a bit lengthy but was a sequence with a couple of exceptions. Bear with me.
Attack :- Searcing target... Target found bear right... More right tail rudder..... Target locked... Direct hit... Examining the spoils against background of battle field smoke !!... A hard shake and debris falls to earth... |
