The sun has just risen. Bernd magnificient BIF shots had inspired me to try out on a smaller scale. Of course these are not as good as Bernd's or others here.

Ssssssssssss,

I would never have thought that my photos could be an inspiration to others, but it feels good!
The bird you shot is sure a lot harder, it looks fast flying, (wing size) and tonal range is a lot nastier than a grey heron!
So you did well!
I haven't got any good shots of smaller BIFs - I'm just too slow!
Herons are like lead zeppelins compared to those smaller agile birds..

regards,
Bernd

Many great shots in this thread!

Did some bird shots this past week end. I will share some, starting with Egrets. More to come when I get a chance to post
All with Alpha 700 + Minolta 300 F4 HS G + TC x1.4

... to be continued

Hi Bernd,

any idea where I can buy this Minolta 400 lens?
I have been looking with Google
and in Ebay and Amazon, but it seems not on the market anymore.

Any hints?

And yes, your images do inpsire

Thanks!

Hi,

well, the 400/4.5 is an old Minolta lens, I got mine from a shop in Germany, specializing on A mount lenses.
I can give you contact details if you want.
Right now the shop has a 300/4 for sale, also a very good lens (frankman is using it), together with a 1,4 TC you get a 420mm lens with a 6.3 aperture. 400/4.5s are getting rare, I suppose....
best regards,
Bernd

These are certainly not pictures which make one sick, on the contrary not only is the egret a beautiful bird but the pictures are very good too

Just one (not so very important) question: #2 and #3 are nearly idetical so why post them both?

Thanks for the info.
I noticed the 400 is a rare lens.

I rather would't work with a converter.
Decreases sharpness and I would like to have true sharpness.
Sp I am not sure the 300 would be the sollution

Thanks anyway!

Just thought I post the above one as it reminds me of "Happy Feet".

Thanks pauljg, I guess I did not know which one to choose
Here are some shots of Cormorant. I am still not quite happy with my BIF shots, but I need to practice.

This is my first picture in this topic, taken with an a350 + SAL18-250. I have just got a Tamron 200-500 and can hardly await to take the first pictures :-) Itīs not a fast lens, but itīs affordable, and got some good reviews here in dyxum.
