@Brandy - Nice shot of the Osprey in Flight. That is one bird that I haven't had a decent shot although I have had quite a few sightings of it in the Indian forests.
Here is one of a Cattle Egret in its breeding colors. |

Great work everybody.
@Brandy, great Osprey and I'm dead jealous of the spinifex pigeon. I was in the heart of spinifex pigeon country a couple of weeks ago, but unfortunately the tow-truck driver wouldn't stop!!! @vinayn, superb study of the breeding Cattle Egret. Eastern Yellow Robin - 03043 I got this one in the Bunya Mountains National Park, between Kingaroy and Dalby in rural Queensland. Camera Model: DSLR-A200 Lens: 300mm F4 Mode: Aperture-priority AE Focal Length: 420 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 0.003 sec (1/320) ISO: 800 Duuuck!-03261.jpg This Plumed Whistling-Duck was one of a flock that flew into Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo for a quick visit. As I've said before, Australia Zoo is a bit of a bird Mecca. In fact I would confidently say that there are more wild species in the grounds than there are in the large walk-through aviary. It's a terrific place and a fitting tribute to a bloke who, although seen as a bit of a Wally by some in his homeland, was undoubtedly a dedicated wildlife conservationist and activist. Onya Steve!! Camera Model: DSLR-A200 Lens: 300mm F4 Mode: Aperture-priority AE Focal Length: 420 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 0.001 sec (1/800) ISO: 400 Royal Spoonbill (Platalea regia) -04346.jpg I got this one in an urban wetland in subrurban Hervey Bay. Camera Model: DSLR-A200 Mode: Aperture-priority AE Focal Length: 300 mm Aperture: f/4.0 Exposure Time: 0.001 sec (1/1250) ISO: 200 Red-capped Plover (Charadrius ruficapillus) -04033 I got this one at the Theodolite Creek Estuary on Queensland's Coral Coast. Camera Model: DSLR-A200 Lens: 300mm F4 Mode: Aperture-priority AE Focal Length: 420 mm Aperture: f/9.0 Exposure Time: 0.001 sec (1/1000) ISO: 200 |

A Long-tailed Shrike shot on the outskirts of Bangalore. This was shot with the Sony A700 and the Tamron 200-500.

This was shot at a Wildlife sanctuary 100 miles from Bangalore. This was shot in the night using the light from the jeep. Shot using the A700 and the Tamron 200-500 at ISO 800.

@Conny1, like the Stork. I always get a bit wistful seeing migrating birds. It's like watching a ship leaving the harbour.

Hi Brandy, That's a fantastic shot, but unfortunately, it isn't a Spinifex Pigeon. It's actually a Crested Pigeon, which has the same crest but is coloured differently. The Spinifex Pigeon is a lot more brownly coloured. It would have been awesome if this was a S.P. Still haven't seen one, but fingers crossed I will one day. Nice Osprey shots BTW! @Capo99: could your numbers 3 & 4 be a Brewer's Blackbird?

Unfortunately not, there is so much danger on the way and transmission lines are just one reason. Only about 30% of the German storks of a year reach their wintering grounds, a stork father told me. |
