Thanks, maewpa, I was not realy expecting that level of performance from a catch all lens. Not quite as sharp as the 70-400G but hey a phenomenal price difference!! ![]() Pushing it to the limits to see if it will be good enough as the only lens I take to Canada in October....+ Ianb |

I know it's not "exotic", but it was the best I could do this morning

Thanks to some fine suggestions from the folk on here - special mention to Stan53 - my holiday in Australia yielded lots of great birdwatching. Here are a few of my favourites, plus a link to see the edit of 130 images (cut down from more than 1,500) in a Photobucket slideshow if anyone's interested.
Slideshow of full collection All were taken with a700 with Sigma 70-200/2.8 and Sigma 30/1.4. The underwater shots were with a Sealife DC1000 Elite, and the photos of me were taken by the pro dive photographers with their own equipment. And apologies for filling up this page with so many photos! ![]() Silver Gull, Sydney Botanic Gardens. ![]() Rainbow Lorikeet, Sydney Botanic Gardens. ![]() Brahminy Kite, Centenary Lakes, Cairns. ![]() Laughing Kookaburras eating a Tree Frog, Centenary Lakes, Cairns. ![]() Beach Stone-curlews, Cape Tribulation. ![]() Yellow-bellied Sunbird, Port Douglas. ![]() Forest Kingfisher, Julatten. ![]() White-throated Honeyeater, Julatten. ![]() Collared Sparrowhawk, Mount Molloy. ![]() Blue-faced Honeyeater, Mount Carbine. ![]() Rainbow Bee-eater, Port Douglas. If you think it's not a rarity Carl, your picture is one of the best I've seen from this little gem. ![]() ![]() |

I'm flattered by your kind comment especially having seen your wonderful work. I took this picture this afternoon. I know it's not brilliant, but I thought I would share! ![]() |

Really astonishing, at 1/1600 it's just stopped.
![]() Your little "roitelet" as we name it is a rarity out of trees like that in autumn, normally it is really a discret bird who stay in the middle of the foliage, and here you are at 1-1,5 meters I think. Edited by Okapi - 26 September 2009 at 20:26 |

Thanks Pierre, it's actually 1/6400 and about 3 metres (a bit of cropping). You're right about blue tits being shy though. I tease them out with tasty tit-bits though. ![]() |

For that purpose in winter, when I make pictures from my car, I use two corded flashes fixed on the car for trying… to fix the movement.
