Here's some pics I've was taking in January
NZ North Island kaka Nestor meridionalis. ![]() ![]() This is New Zealand's endemic and endangered forest parrot. Over the last century numbers have contracted greatly under pressure from exotic predators and competitors. These birds were photographed at Puhaka (or Mount Bruce), a conservation reserve near Masterton. The duller plumage (for parrots) is a product of their evolution in a landscape where all predators were avian (hence, used eye-sight to hunt). |
