More news from the muddy avocet waterfront - this time two shots of their most common lightning-quick feeding motions while they wade up and down their tenaciously defended corner of the marsh (all shot with a450 and Minolta 600 f4 apo HS)


Split second water curtain = heads up from a vertical dip in slightly deeper water





Sideswipe = horizontal zigzag flicking of the tweezer beak across the shallowest water




Their territories are very ephemeral and shift from day to day as ponds dry up or replenish after the last significant rains of the season. But throughout (or because?) of all that hormones continue to rage and tempers flare up every ten minutes!
