Thought it was time we had a thread devoted to life and sport on the water.

Here's some money sitting around at Auckland Harbour's basin. All shot with the a700 and the CZ 16-80, and processed from jpg files.

I'm curious how much is such a yacht (although they say that if you ask how much is it then it is definitely not for you ) - I presume right around the price of the Flagship

Larry Ellison of Oracle fame had a "yacht" in Auckland for the Americas Cup -- a floating gin palace that was about the size of a small hotel -- the Rising Sun, at 454 feet, is the longest or second longest privately owned boat in the world.

Some other facts about Larry's yacht The Rising Sun:

Length: 452.75ft (138 m) long
Cruising speed: 28 knots
Four diesels giving an output of 48 000 horsepower.
Production cost: US$200 million+
Total living space: 8 000 square meters.
Huge inside swimming pool
Extensive wine cellar
A cinema
Basketball court that doubles as a helicopter pad
Suites for 16 guests
82 rooms on five storeys
Space for private submarine

He would not take my offer of a downpayment.

Most of the yachts with sails that are there now start at a mere US$80,000.

Nice ones Roy, and the last reminds me of a place on the Isle of Harris in the Hebrides. About the only buildings were the pub and a kirk at the top of the hill.

Just checked out the map and it was the Rodel Hotel ("at the end of everything") before it's current incarnation -- see.

brettania, it looks a great place to visit. I spent a wonderful couple of days on Skye but never got across, shame on me.

oh boy! Boats !! I have tons of those, taken from my old appartment's balcony.

A traditional Dutch flat-bottomed yacht called "Vollenhovense Bol"
(Crop of a shot I believe I took with the kit 18-70DT at max zoom since I think it was all I had at the time)

It is a HDR one of my first efforts with the Sony, perhaps a little heavy handed but it still has something.
