It was Tokina day at Zoo Atlanta today, with my new (to me) Tokina 28-70 f2.6 - 2.8 AT-X Pro II (it's not in the database, btw), Tokina's 2nd generation of the Angenieux design, and my Tokina 100-300 f4. They photos had some minor touchup in levels and sharpness but the color is straight out of the A700.

It was kinda amusing, but when I mounted the 100-300, I began to get startled looks from most of the people around me, and the dSLR users came up to me and asked questions about it, and photography (I guess they thought "wow, what a big lens, he must be an expert"). I even had one guy walk up out of the blue, point to the lens and say "I've a bad case of lens envy" then turned around and walked off without another word.

EK

28-70

#1 70mm, f2.8, 1/200s, ISO200

#2 Using the on-board flash, 70mm, f11, 1/100s, ISO200

#3 70mm, f5, 1/100s, ISO200

#4 I wish the head was a little more in focus, but I like the texture of the shot (and shooting throuh plexiglass didn't help the sharpness either). 70mm, f2.8, 1/125s, ISO200

100-300 f4

#5 300mm, f4.5, 1/1600s, ISO200

#6 300mm, f4, 1/320s, ISO200

#7 300mm, f4, 1/640s, ISO200

Hi Vincent,

I know what you mean about lens envy. I took out my tamron adaptall 300/2.8 on my A700 and went for a walk around the zoo last weekend and got plenty of stares (and the occasional person asking what I was shooting with). The good thing is that it is nice for cutting through crowds though because I think people dont want to get in your way :)
