That was a memorable day. If I was still shooting A Mount, I would post a couple of mine.

Nice shot chthoniid, the 300/4 showing off it's sharpness and detail. It only looks a little flat on my monitor, maybe a levels adjustment (especially at the light end) will give it some more pop.

Went to the San Diego Zoo yesterday on a very hot day.
All shots taken with a 70-400G SSM f/4.-5.6 mounted on a Sony A900 handheld-only. No post-processing done. Let me know what you think. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Edited by JG-Photography - 29 August 2009 at 19:13 |

This is my first post, so hopefully everything goes okay! These were taken last year at SF Zoo. Both with A100 and Tamron 70-300mm:

@JG-Photography: good series of animal close-ups. Couple of comments:
- maybe post them the next time with an empty line inbetween, so each photo stands by itself - did you sharpen after downsize? As you said no PP done I think you didn't which makes them look a bit soft. I think A900 + 70-400G can do better. Some specific comments on the pics: 1: cute, and a nice off-center composition 2: could you have gone down further to get closer to eye level? 3: background is a bit busy and colorwise quite close to the elefant, nice catch on the shower though 4: good sharpness and a bit central, also w/o another duck in the background it would stand out more 5: well spotted, but I think the sharpness plane is just in front of the eye. Would have been better is the eye was the sharpest 6: a bit busy and the cut off head of the one in the background distracts me. There's better flamingo pics in your smugmug. @josj: nice ones and good detail/sharpness. The meercats are cute like this and the dolphins are at "just" the right moment. Beercan I presume? @ jdmoody : welcome to dyxum and nice pics. Glad all went well with your first post. Edited by pegelli - 29 August 2009 at 18:42 |
