July COLOUR Festival

July is going to be a Colourful summer month so join us in our July COLOUR Challenge.

Rules are easy:

* Post no more than ONE picture per week in the right colour from the right weekday.
* You can post 7 days a week - or just pick your favourite day's/colours.
* Use a Sony A or E mount camera.
* Use any lens you want - use excessive Photoshop if you like - It is the colour that counts.
* You can set extra challenges for yourself if you like to.

These are the colourful days:

Sunday    - Multicolour (July 4,11,18,25)
Monday    - Blue/Violet (July 5,12,19,26)
Tuesday   - Red/Orange (July 6,13,22,27)
Wednesday - Green       (July 7,14,21,28)
Thursday - Yellow/Brown (July 1,8,15,22,29)
Friday    - Black/White/Sepia (July 2,9,16,23,30)
Saturday - Any 2 colours (July 3,10,17,24,31)

For example - 1 July is a Thursday so you make a yellow/brown colour picture.
It is not OK if you make the yellow/brown picture on a Monday but post it on the Thursday.
You can however post on another weekday your on Thursday made yellow/brown picture.
But there is always the Outtakes thread if you do want to show your wrong day wrong colour pictures or other kind of outtakes.

So let's colour this month and Sign Up now!

Sounds very complicated but I'll give it a shot.
I'm grateful for Dyxum Challenges in getting me to push various photographic boundaries.

Oh: "It is not OK if you make the yellow/brown picture on a Monday but post it on the Thursday." that makes it much harder. In 2016 the day you took the picture was not decisive (https://www.dyxum.com/dforum/signup-july-colour-festival-2016_topic120060_page1.html)

Have to think about this one.

Pfff, difficult, but tempting.

I'll leave for a summer holiday somewhere in July (if permitted), so I'll try a few.

Going to make a print of the rules and make a decision chart to guide me

I promise that I won't post everyday.

Welcome Jozioau, is it my English that makes it complicated?
Or that you have to remember (screenshot on your phone?) the weekdays with the colours?

Have to think about this one.

This is the 2021 challenge July has always been a bit different.
And there has to be a little bit of challenging in it if all else if free of choice.
But.. uhm.. I was under the impression that you wanted more Dyxum challenging things in your days. Here is your chance

nandbytes are you up for this challenge?

I want manageable challenges. That was why I was pushing for week-long challenges because sometimes a month long challenge is just to much.
Of course I know it is the 2021 challenge, I just feel the 2016 rules were more manageable - but you're right, it is a challenge.

I noticed that you can pick your favourite day's/colours. That means that it will become a day-challenge to me: when I go on a photo-walk I simply look for the colour of the day. In between work and live, I for sure will not do all colours. We'll see how many pictures I will share. You can add me to the list.

If it's OK to make/post just 1 photo for each of the "colour possibilities" I will sign up, I'll try to do more but not sure I can manage.
You can see the April Foolishness 2021 exhibition here Another great show of the talent we have on Dyxum

I have no idea how this one will go, or what I will find to shoot - but I'll give it a go and post every day I get a qualifying shot.

Welcome, great you all can join.

Harm, if you just have a list of the day colours it is not that hard. You could start in the morning by looking what colour it is that day and you have the whole day to look for a nice shot.

Addy, or you can make it a challenge to have all of the colours once like Pieter does. For most of the colours you have 4 days of possibilities. For others even 5.

Pieter sure it is OK, besides the fixed colour-days you can fill it in how you like it.

Phil, it is not that hard. If you have the day colour in your head it will be nice to start looking for it.

This is going to be difficult for me but I'll try to join with a couple of caveats.

1. I might drop out. A month long challenge isn't easy for me due to other pursuits and priorities. And, yes, responsibilities. I keep forgetting them!
2. I can't shoot daily. When I find time, I'll go out and shoot for a few hours. If I come back with 5 good pics, that'll last me 5 days.

#1 above is not a concern as long as I'm allowed to shoot in batches.

If I'm not allowed to shoot a yellow/brown pic on a Wednesday or a green pic on a Monday, I can't join.

But I'll still try to run with the challenge and post exclusively to the outtakes thread instead. Hope that's allowed.

Regards
Sashi

IMHO, it'll be better to keep the rules as simpler than the ones proposed above. Some sort of guidance/direction WILL help in getting people to think along certain lines but it would be good to help encourage artistic pursuit by framing rules a certain way.
More Dyxumer, less photographer.

Sashi, I understand what you say and I know you are not the only one that prefers to shoot in batches. But the challenge of a challenge is trying to get out or your photographic comfort-zone and try different things.

The rules are very simple I think, only it is restricted by day and colour. That doesn't make the rules difficult but that makes it a challenge to comply and if you have time to take the camera out - it is a specific colour to look for on that day.
But - your are free in lens choice. You are free in Post Processing.

It would be great if you could join on the days you have time to shoot.
Just look at the colour for that day and post it in the right thread.
For all the other colours there is the outtakes.
I put you on the list and hope you can make it the whole month.
