My new (bought last Sat) Sigma 50-150 HSM II works fine. I have used and abused it every which way to find a malfunction, but seems to be OK.
Phoned Sigma UK to ask about it. I quoted the serial number (1016xxx) and he looked it up and said it was manufactured end of Sept so probably had the SLT mods. There was no sticker on the box, which didn't surprise him. He also said the problem was related to the aperture and the mod was to the mount. |

Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 EX DC OS hasn't been listed as compatible on this site yet. Any reason?

Perhaps the SLT Compat bit for sigma lens should be set to "probably ok" unless particular lenses are found to have a problem. I tried these lenses: 24-70 D EX 2005276 50-500 4f63 APO 1008146 70-210 f28 APO 1005772 18-200 35f63 DC 2076106 170-500 5f63 APO 2031043 10-20 D 4f56 DC EX 2030114 And... 28-200 38f56 3080002 24-70 35f56 1004464 75-300 4f56 3124000 All them are recognised fine and work to take pictures. I've done video and stills with a range of apertures on all the top lenses without issue... Sigma say some are too old to "fix" but I'll send the others back for the fix anyway - even though I'm not sure what the real problem is! (A55v is fabulous btw.... :) |

Can I ask mikebhm to explain the reference to "SLT mods" please?
" manufactured end of Sept so probably had the SLT mods." I recently had the Sigma 50-150mm f2.8 HSM II to try with my A33 and unfortunately I had to return it. I found an unacceptably high failure rate when attempting to lock focus in AF mode. Admittedly many instances may have been in relatively low contrast situations but I have never had a single instance with the A33 and cz16-80mm. I have had the camera locked on a tripod and the Sigma has refused to lock focus at 50 - 70mm. I swapped lens to the cz16-80 which had no problem locking focus. I so wanted this lens to succeed, I tried a copy some time ago with the A700 and it was rubbish (see lense database) The IQ on this copy looked very good. Roy |

Roy,
I can't really add any more to my previous post. I understood the Sigma man to say that the mod for SLT compatibility is to the lens mount and relates to the aperture control, as widely reported in the internet forums. Don't know if it is a new lens mount or a mod to the lens mount. I understood him to say that my lens had probably incorporated the mods during manufacture because of it's recent manufacture date. I think you guys(and girls) should do another test to be sure they work.
I recently bought an A55 and all my Sigma lenses seemed to work fine(I was so happy) until I used the DOF-preview, I noticed none of my Sigma lenses apertures re-openend. It was only after I pressed the DOF-preview a few times the apertures would open again. I have following lenses : Sigma 10-20mm 4.0-5.6(has already been sold and replaced by a Tokina 11-16mm). Sigma 20mm 1.8 EX DG(a pity, I really love that lens) Sigma 105mm 2.8 Macro EX non-DG version I've done the test with the 20mm and 105mm Macro with a Kenko 1.4 Extender and then the problem doesn't occur so I'm sure the problem is with the lenses. My other lenses(Tamron 18-250mm, Tamron 200-500mm and Tokina 11-16mm) all work fine. After I noticed this I've tested the lenses extensively and it also happens after I have taken a picture. The problem can then be solved by pressing the DOF-preview a few times. I've also tested 2 converters I've bought on Ebay, the M42 converter works fine and the Minolta MD Macro converter doesn't even fit. Sven |

Just received my Sigma 18-50mm 2.8- 4.5 OS HSM and tested on my A55. Lens would hunt and lock the shutter. Tried different modes, turned off/on OS, AF, in camera AF, SSS, AF-S, AF-C, remounted lens, off/ on, and removed battery. It worked a whopping 3 times. In its defense, I bought from Amazon and did not have the SLT sticker. I will be return it. Thanks

i have changed our lens database regarding this sigma SLT issue. Instead of claiming incompatibility (as stated by sigma) we now have a warning mark with link to the official statement.

I just tried this on my Sigma 50-150 f2.8 II. Stopped down with DOF button several times at every aperture, and it was always lightening fast at stopping down and re-opening.
This lens has "probably had the SLT mods" according to Sigma based on its serial and date (see posts above)

I have tried a couple Sigma lenses on A33 without any problems:
* Sigma 100-300mm EX DG IF F4 * Sigma 50mm 1,4 HSM * Sigma 75-200mm f/3.8 AF |

Got a new Sigma 8-16 last week, didn't work well with my A55. :(
Had to send it back for an exchange. Seller did test all the Sigma 8-16 he had in stock, and they were all problematics. He sent them back to Sigma Canada. Waiting for a new one from Sigma tomorrow. Crossing my fingers. |

Got my new Sigma 8-16. It's still having problems with AF with my A55... It's better then the other one, but it's still having problems...
Seller's answer: send it back after the Holidays. But I need the lens for a 2 weeks trip! I'm leaving next week! Sigh... What a deception for the price. Was planning to use it on my trip. :( |

Can you not just send it back to Sigma for modification? |

Since it's brand new, dealer was trying to solve the problem.
But if I send it at Sigma, it won't be back before I leave. It's the Holidays. :( |
