all I can say is, ever since the merge, the site is constantly crashing (where you see the little girl walking the fake/toy panda picture) and when this happens, the app seems to crash as well

Yup - and, mysteriously, when you do a page reload almost as soon as you get that increasingly irritating shot, the page loads!! Not one of it's better functionality I'm afraid.

On their Facebook page, Flickr has just announced two important updates:

"Today, we’re pleased to announce two important updates that deepen Flickr’s commitment to our members and to the worldwide photography community:
→ All public, CC-licensed works on Flickr are now protected.
→ We’re offering “in memoriam” accounts to existing Flickr members who have passed away".

That in-memoriam option makes the price of admission well worth it.

Now that is a very positive (and well intended) measure. Let's hope it works as it seems to be intended to.

Best regards, Neil.

wow, so... Flickr was supposed to be down for 12 hours yesterday for some kind of maintenance, it ended up being more like 27 hours, but the app on Android still not working... (I believe it's working on iOS), however... with their site/desktop... I can't seem to upload new photos. What a mess

My Flickr account has just burst into life after being out for over 24 hours with the message that there 'may still be some issues'. Not a great PR exercise really, is it?

Not a good start.

I'm no apologist for Flickr, but what they've just done is massive - transferred trillions of images and huge quanta of data from one server (Yahoo) to another (Google) integrating into the existing SmugMug data base, and with relatively few hours of down-time, brought all the basic Flickr things back on line, with various more complex aspects and tweaks to follow.
I'm just happy things are up and running so quickly and seamlessly, and that 'normal transmission has been resumed'.

I agree it is a massive job. They call it maintenance, but it is a complete renovation. I appreciate the difficulties that come with it, but don't like that service levels will be reduced for a much longer time. The outage of the 'camera roll' for a longer time is very annoying

Already had a number of Bad Pandas and slow responses. They did a lot of work to get rid of Yahoo, but perhaps functionality still as before?

I've just posted a new series of images and, initially, it didn't want to show the 'share' icon to allow the BB Code to be copied; a few images didn't have the Share option visible and then, slowly, all images had it present - it's like it had to learn/realise that this was an option I needed!

Otherwise, it does seem to be working okay at the moment; possibly even a little quicker in terms of response. However, being on Google at work (Google Mail and Google provide some business functionality; Google Sheets, Forms etc.) means I expect my images to appear on my works home drive any time now - it is a disconcertingly 'all enveloping' platform sometimes...

Best regards, Neil.
