Thank you all for your explanations. I do agree that a used camera is a better value proposition. That is why all my cameras are used or demos from reliable stores.
![]() At the moment I suffer from GAS. I want a medium format camera, but investing in another system (next to E-mount, A-mount, EF-mount, RF-mount) is just stupid. So, I am looking at an outlet Sony A7rIV (there is one in a reliable store I am eying) - but still expensive. And then I think, I need to go out and take pictures with my FE 16-35/4 and Samyang 45/1.8. Back on topic. Like I said, the Canon EOS R is nice. The R5 is a headline grabber camera, the R6 probably is the real deal. But if the R5 is around €/£/$5000-6000 how much will the R6 be? If it is the 6D replacement, it should be around €/£/$2000 - but then there is a huge gap in price between the R5 and R6. Basically, I have no clue ![]() ![]() But something different: is Canon going Leica? They have the M-mount, like Leica. They will have the R5 and R6, like Leica. They ask insanely expensive prices, like Leica. |

It's now a commonplace observation that the entire camera market is shrinking, thus every segment of it that remains is targeted to the comparatively small population of pro or enthusiast buyers, and return on investment in new products will be more difficult for manufacturers, meaning product lines must be reduced and prices will inevitably rise. |

Guess for me that would be "more than what I was comfortable with" as I bought a new A99ii here downunder last year.
No other options for A-mount in Australia and doing the maths it was less expensive going A99ii than changing mount...buggered if I know what I'll do when the time comes in the future and either camera or most used lenses dies? ![]() |

Looking at how A-mount gear sells on Ebay here downunder right now I might aswell donate it to the Salvo's!
It's either stupidly overpriced (like a $900 A55 kit) or just not moving at all even at good prices (like Joe's SAL 70-200 2.8G). If that 70-200 2.8 still is around come tax return time there's a chance I'll snap it up...unless the CFO nixes it ![]() |

When demand dries up there isn't a market. For a while there is enough supply to push prices down on the common stuff, then after a while that dries up too. It's difficult to get a sensible price when the market dries up. We're now finding that with houses. |
