Hi Joe,
I had only the A7R2 in E-mount to compare it with (don't consider my full spectrum converted NEX-5N as a serious alternative ![]() That one could never compete with my A99ii for me. Used it mainly for manual lenses and didn't like the ergonomics and battery drain and missed the fully articulating screen. The LA-EA3/4 on A7R2 were below A99ii performance. That's all taken care of with the A7IV (and LA-EA5), with great AF capabilities as extra bonus. For the first time now I start to consider changing my main camera. Never would have thought that before, since I am still in love with my A99ii. Often I carry two camera's anyhow, so that will allow me to make a choice (or not). I have a Tamron FE 2.8/28-200 and FE 2.8/20mm just to walk around if I want to. I still have to try the real tracking with e.g. my 70-400mm, but for now I can surpress the E-mount glas GAS ![]() I am sure I will extensively try it out further and keep you posted. |

Fred,
I've taken +/- the same direction. The LA-EA5/4r are sufficient enough combined with the right body - to be able to keep on using the older lenses. I'm just waiting for an A7RIV or A7IV in 2nd hand that is affordable (i'm not going to spend 4k or 3K on a camera - the A7RII was my most expensive one at 1500€ netto brand new though - and i assume the A7RIV may cost 2nd hand around 2k€ for me - 1500 for the A7IV within a few years). I found a used Canon 24mm T&S today - and i hope to get that one (when the glass is good i'll have to verify that first) - and sell my 24 tse from Samyang. The A99II stays a very capable camera and you should keep on using it as long as you can. Try to find one 2nd hand - there aren't many of them... That says it all. |

Got it installed and took some test shots with the a99ii in RAW . Rather than transferring the images to my PC and then converting to DNG , then importing to Lightroom , I left the RAWs on the card in the card reader and selected that as the source files , and set the portable drive I use as the destination . I've just transferred the DNG's to the hard drive , and not bothered transferring the Sony RAWs . I then I set Lightroom to add them to it's catalogue . Everything worked fine , so I'll stick with LR5 and Adobe can keep their subscription ! I'm going to try a few comparisons of converting to DNG's with their lossy compression and seeing if there's any noticeable difference between that , non-lossy compression and JPEG's . Apart from crop-ability , the a99ii and a7Riv has much more resolution than I require , 24mp is enough for me from the a900 and a77ii , I bought these two cameras for other reasons . |

For the time being, I will use them side by side. A first small ergonomic annoyance on the A7IV is the fact that the AEL button is easily presssed when carrying the camera. Fortunately there is a sign showing in the screen (apart from the exposure looking odd in live view) when it is on. |
