Improving stability is a good thing!
Last week an system error on my A99ii.
Only way to solve this error was unplugging my battery.
This is the second system error in 1,5 year
You don't take a photograph, you make it.

Any idea in what way these cameras (a9-a7r-iii-a7-iii-a7r-ii-a7-ii-a7s-ii-a6500-and-a99-ii) have a different flash protocol from the others?
Miranda F & Sensorex, Sony A58, Nex-6, Dynax 4, 5, 60, 500si/600si/700si/800si, various Sony & Minolta lenses, several Tamrons, lots of MF primes and *far* too many old film cameras . . .

I did. It's a very smooth process. No idea what has changed (yet).

This firmware appears to fix the camera locking up on continuous lo drive mode when non-electronic lenses (Release w/o Lens) are used. I tested it out after updating and it was happy as a clam (as far as I could tell). Described in this post almost three years ago.

That is excellent news. Thanks for sharing.
I wasn't aware of the formatting risk, but found the lock up with (often used) manual lenses one of the main flaws of this great camera. I will pick up the firmware this weekend.

After updating to the latest firmware I have noticed an improvement in overall responsiveness of the camera.
This might be a placebo effect

I haven't noticed any changes or improvements after the update. So at least it didn't break anything...

So far I have only had 1/2 day with the 70-400 G1, more to come next weekend, probably trying a couple of other lenses.

My Mac's USB connection screwed up during the firmware upgrade - and now I am dire straits!

The camera is now unable to start up - hence no possibility to get it to communicate with the Mac.

Whenever battery is mounted - only have a fixed red pilot light.

Have tried the most - left it without battery power - and with at lengthyu spells - but in vain.

Any ideas out there to have the camera reset - or will the only option be to return to have Sony service to giveit a go?

Ouch! With those symptoms I'd think your only recourse is to send it in, apparently the BIOS code has been corrupted. Sony needs to get away from updating directly to the camera and go back to firmware updates via the card.

Even though it's not recognizing the camera have you tried to reinstall the firmware?

The update does not complete

When the monitor remains black for more than 15 minutes, follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1-Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.
2-Remove the battery and AC adapter from the camera, leave it for a few minutes, then insert the battery again or connect the AC adapter.
3-Restart the computer.
4-Turn on the camera and perform the installation process again.
