Yes, but as the camera doesn't start up it does not communicate . The Mac - firmware doesn't "see" the camera hence will only boot down - stop running.

Sony should be able to re-flash the BIOS and then install the firmware.

What happens if you connect the camera to USB with the power off?
If it is recognized as *any* USB device, please start the downloader and follow the instructions.

Generally, flush ROM has a protected area called Boot Block, and the rewrite program is there.
Even if the power of the camera is off, the PC recognizes it as a USB device. This is also often done by the Boot Block program.

If the downloader is recognized as a USB device even if the camera is off, it is often configured to be able to start the upgrade process from that state. I am not sure because I am not a Sony engineer. However, it is an ordinary way as written in a developers guidebook.

Have tried, but being only requested to "connect the device to the computer with the USB cable" - without and with power(battery inserted). As soon as battery is inserted getting a red pilot light - with the power switch in on and off modes.

Thank you anyway - will visit a service centre next - and see what happens!

On different forums I have read about people who thought they "bricked" their A7x or other Sony camera, but eventually they solved it (continuing from where they were stuck). I think the firmware update procedure is very similar on all newer alpha cameras, so you may benefit from a search for "bricked A7" (A7x) or "bricked Sony".

Thanks a lot - success!

Followed the briansmith.com - BULLETPROOF GUIDE TO SONY CAMERA FIRMWARE UPDATES to the last detail - and viola, at second attempt the program started to run and completed the update.
Back in business and service request issued to be cancelled,
