Sony announce 3 new FE primes

I just spent the morning watching every review available so far on these new lenses. All are impressive, and tempting. However, it helped me make up my mind. I just placed my order for the Tamron 35mm 2.8, currently on sale for $199.
At 1/3 the price of the new 40mm 2.5 from Sony, affordability wins over size, 1/3 stop, and faster focus with Sony's linear motor. The much close focus of the Tamron was the other big plus, and probably the final check for my decision.

All that being said, I think the new lenses are very impressive, perhaps there will be a 50mm 2.5 for me at some point in the future.

The Tamron 35mm F2.8 is a very good lens. It doesn't seem like these are quite as good optically.

I guess the aperture ring is supposed to make up for the lack of a front dial on the A7C. I prefer more body controls and less clutter on the lens.

Me too! The other was the original 1:2 90mm macro. Classic all-moving double-Gauss design in adaptall with a dedicated extension tube you could swap for a 2x TC. great lens of its time, before they all changed to telephoto designs. The more recent f2.8 A-mount is basically a 50mm macro with a matched 2x Tc on the back, which halves the throw needed for 1:1.

I'm not sure they are pricey.
Remember the Sony Zeiss 35mm f2.8 is about $800
This lenses are very similar, been the new ones a little bit bigger and heavier.
I'm planning on getting the 24mm

The longitudinal (and bokeh highlight) ca seems a bit high but goes away about a stop down..of course so does part of the bokeh.

Else I think the 24 in particular is intriguing as a trekking landscape lens, it should work in mini hand type tripods. I love the Tamron 28-75 (first general range FE zoom I've had) so the rest are uninteresting to me, and the 24 only if I never get back my Voigt 21 3,5 from repair.

Old thread but I bought the 50mm f/2.5G used at a good discount. I needed a fast focusing 50mm for studio work with toddlers. The FE 50mm f/1.8 wasn't cutting it and the Zeiss 55mm is overpriced even used. The Sigma f/1.4 is way to big and heavy. I considered the Samyang/Rokinon 45mm f/1.8 but by the time I added a dock to do updates (which many reviewers reported were needed to solve AF problems) I was less than $100 from this lens. The Samyang/Rokinon 50mm f/1.4 is reported to have terrible AF and for this use, I need fast AF.

So I dove in the deep end. This lens has quickly become one of my favorites. Fantastic IQ on the A7Riii, extremely fast AF (fastest of any lens I've tried) and super small and light. It is smaller and than the Tamron 35mm f/2.8 and matches it or surpasses it for IQ. Definitely a keeper.
