There'll also be firmware updates to a7Riii and a7iii bringing over some (all?) of these features as well.

Yes that's mentioned at the end of the A9 upgrade notice - I didn't read through it all at first.

a9 will get the FW upgrade first (in March), and then the a7III/a7RIII will get it in April

Well, the A6400 is interesting. It is a bit of a mixed bag.

It has a audio in and a front facing screen, making it a good 4k video camera. But one would expect IBIS then.

It has the old FW battery, no problem as it keeps the camera small. But I would like a slightly bigger grip. The lack of uncompressed Raw surprises me.

It seems to me the A6300 replacement - does this mean we also see a A6600? And what about an A5200? And where is the lens that was rumored?

This is what the press release says about the M3 updates:

Sony’s popular α7R III and α7 III full-frame cameras will both receive enhanced Real-time Eye AF performance with new version 3.0 software. This will be available in AF-C mode with a simple half-press of the shutter button. Real-Time Eye AF for animalsi will also be available.

Additionally, the cameras will receive interval recording functionality that will allow for the very simple creation of time-lapse movies[vii]. The new feature can be set for anywhere between 1 and 60 seconds, with a total number of shots from 1 to 9999. AE tracking sensitivity can also be adjusted to ‘High’, ‘Mid’ or ‘Low during interval recording, allowing for reduced changes in exposure over the shooting interval.

The new version 3.0 system software update is scheduled for April 2019.

Unfortunately, animal eye AF for the a9 is not due until V6, which is scheduled for the summer. least it is coming. Now all we need is some more long ranged lens options.

It looks like a decent update to the A6300. It is not a camera I want, but a lot of Sony's camera customers like the A6x00 series, and all the YouTubers have been clamoring for the selfie screen. It looks like it has the switch that disables the EVF when the screen is pulled out. I

I guess you would like an A5200, Matthew.

I like my A7II more the than the A6x00 cameras.

The description of "Real-time Eye AF" on the A6400 sounds like what the A68 does.   It is not all that effective with the 79 point AF system, but the A68 tries to focus on eyes in normal AF-C wide area mode.

My guess is we'll see a replacement for the A6500. A6600 or A7000? As for the A5100, I think this is the end of the A5x00 series. Looks to me the A6400 replaces it.

The thing is, the rumored A7000 is not really an A6500 replacement. But maybe Sony thinks it will be....

Here's a good video about the a9 V5 firmware and what all it can now do.
