Just saw today that Sony Style Canada has dropped the price of the A99 to $2799.99 from $2999.99...
Having pre-ordered this last week, I sincerely hope that there will be some sort of rebate when I pick it up at the retail side. No difference in the ship date though (Oct. 22nd still). This price now matches the American site (at least until they change it again)... JRL |

My understanding is that if you have pre-ordered it then you will only be charged once the camera gets shipped. I am sure the new price will be applicable then.

I believe you have a 30 day full refund warranty on the product, so if Sony Style won’t give you their lowest price, just return it.
Most if not all other camera shops will “price match” the lowest posted price. Just tell the Sony Style manager that, and I have a feeling he will change your invoice pretty quick. |

you guys have got to make some friends in the US
for me, I'm originally from California, when I eventually decide to buy the a99, I'll be ordering it just before I go on one of my bi-annual visits home. No tax and lower price FTW. The 12% BC tax alone would be $360 ![]() ![]() |

The price at Sonystyle Canada and USA is the same, just as it is at B & H. $2,799 |

I have no doubt that my store will charge me the lesser amount. What's interesting to point out here is that it is very rare that Sony Canada is following the pricing scheme of the US. We have never followed in their footsteps (usually adding a few hundred dollars on top of the US pricing for lenses), and it is also surprising to note that it was an initial $2999.99 but in the course of a few days has dropped by $200.00? My conversations with a few of the Sony fellows in the city are telling me that the margin for the A99 is very thin (making only just over a hundred dollars on each body they sell)...so it is RARE that the Canadian prices matched, especially after five days of being on pre-order. Since our dollar is relatively strong vs. the US greeback ($1.024), this might be the sign of good things to come...parity is a good thing I suppose.

SonyStyle Canada has in the past rebated money to me after a purchase when they later dropped the price. I have found them to be quite responsive to emails on matters like this.

I think it's inevitable that it will drop in price quite quickly unless it flies off the shelves given the price of the Nikon D800 (which also makes me think the D600 will drop in price quickly too) That said, the Canon 5D Mark III is still quite dear (in the UK anyway) which is probably a more comparable camera to the A99.

I think so too. In the Netherlands the Nikon D800 cheapest price at the moment is € 2569 and the D600 is now available for € 1929. Interesting developments! |

Buying from the US can save the 12% tax, but sometimes we'll have to also consider the after sale events too. In Canada, the warranty is 2 yrs while I think it is only 1 in US. Also, it would be a big hassle to get it fix under warranty ( send it back to US ? ) unless Sony Canada honor the US warranty. Bringing the camera back into Canada basically are subjected to the same 12% HST, unless you don't declare. If they search your bag and you didn't declare, you will be in big trouble (I assume the custom will search you up side down every single time you enter). |
