Hello:

I'm wondering if I am missing something in the HVL56 flash.

My flash has the 'custom' box in the bottom left hand corner, even when just on TTL.
I'm happy to quickly adjust power myself (in fact I its quicker to be able to do that on the screen, in a custom setting), but is it possible to switch it off ?

Was in a class yesterday and, as ever, the Sony mind had the tutor stumped.

It all works fine, and I'm happy, but thought it might be useful to ask the question here.

Thanks for any responses anyone can give :)

As per the owners's manual, here are the custom settings possibilities.

The various flash settings may be changed as necessary. The following five items may be changed.
• Wireless channel setting (channels 1 to 4)
• Flash range units (m/ft)
• Time to auto power off (4 minutes/15 minutes/60 minutes/none)
• Time to auto power off when using wireless flash (60 minutes/none)
• Recording modes in which manual flash and multiple flash may be set
(M mode only/all modes)

If you reset to default, these will become:

• Wireless channel setting: channel 1
• Flash range units: m
• Time to auto power off: 4 minutes
• Time to auto power off when using wireless flash: 60 minutes
• Recording modes in which manual flash and multiple flash may be set: M mode only

As son as one of these is set to something other than the default, the "Custom" Indicator will appear.

Find the owner's manual and change whatever suits you, but you may lose some features you need by just eliminating this "Custom" indicator

Thanks very much for that, Michel

I di look up in the manual, but it doesn't explain why the custom tab remains open.
Even a 'reset' doesn't get rid of it.
