I'll be finding out for myself soon enough , I've just picked up an a7Riv at a good price with a shutter count of only 2028 , and an LA-EA5 .
I should have both in a few days .

That 26 (not so) legendary A-mount lenses was mentioned before, on page 14 and 15. Maybe add it to the start post?

Nothing new out there?

I do not have a video but for anyone interested...

I just checked out the following A-mount lenses I own (Sony a99ii) against the LA-EA5/a7R IV combo, sw version 1.20:

The following work AF-wise, no hunting:

Sigma 24-105mm F4 DG HSM ART
Tamron SP 45mm F1.8 Di USD
Tamron SP 90mm F2.8 Di Macro USD
Tamron SP AF28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di
Sony/Zeiss SAL1635Z
Sony SAL300F28 G2

The following DO NOT WORK AF-wise, Excessive hunting:

Tamron 150-600 SP Di USD G2 (A022S)
Sony SAL500F4 G
Sony SAL70400 Orig and G2

I really appreciate the input.
I will look to the a7riv or a7iv at some point.

Could you make a direct comparison of speed on these lenses you mention with your a99ii vs the a7riv?   I'm just interested in your gut feeling (close?, not that close? For af speed?) Compare af accuracy? Etc.

I won't be getting a1, but chime in if you use that with a mount glass too, please.   I figure if you have 6k on emount body you probably have better glass than my old Minolta 100 f2 and 35 f2,

Surely appreciate any opinions, would love to hear what those with a7iv think with our old a mount classics.

Thanks to all who may give guidance/opinions

All of the lenses that I say work with AF are those that I do not perceive a diff against the a99ii. The models that I state Hunt Excessively are not usable for any subject action whatsoever. I had a hard time with my stationary test target at 20-30 feet away, both at full focus range or with the focus limiter active. Not that they never worked, only they hunted more often than not, many times never focusing at all.

To hear you say that is not much of a difference is great news

If I can get even close to the same performance with my a mount gear on a new e mount body ill be thrilled. I guess I don't really have much choice except to start over, Otherwise

Thanks Tom and I would again love to hear others' opinions, especially with 80s Minolta glass

I am surprised. I used the original SAL 70-400 with LA-EA5/a7rIV and found it very good AF wise and it felt as good as native combination.
My latest a-mount body is a99 (first generation) and the SAL 70-400 with LA-EA5/a7rIV was better AF-wise. Later I bought the e-mount 200-600mm lens and I found its AF performs with a7rIV similar and in some cases even worse that the LA-EA5/a7rIV with SAL 70-400 combo.

Generally, I found the LA-EA5/a7rIV as good as native a-mount body with most of the lenses I used it. I didn't do any direct comparison, just based on personal experience.

Good to hear. Thanks for your insight as well.

I have not considered e mount strongly until recently. Hope to hear other opinions as well. Thanks again

@jordo7,
If you're interested, I've posted about my using my SAL70200G2 on my a7iv camera via the LA-EA5 including a link to some Sports Pics images in the Sony aiv thread.
Worked absolutely seamlessly and provided all the smarts that the a7iv had to offer like the human eye autofocus, and generally impressed me.
As noted in that post, it is my intention over the coming while to get out with the a7iv and every one of my a-mount lenses, post some images in appropriate threads, and also links into the a7iv camera thread.
It's certainly my expectation that I'll be able to enjoy all my a-mount glass whether SSM or screw drive focus on the a7iv with that adaptor.

Really great shots. Like 1 best. 5 also great.   Excellent colors.
I appreciate your post and letting us all know.

Hopefully we get to see some more upcoming.

I may just start looking for an a7iv.
