I have one, all I need to do now is buy a slightly more expensive A7Riv and find an elegant way to offload A99, A7 and A7Rii as they will then no longer serve any purpose.

Dear Paul,
I'm having the same idea's - and i'm not moving into the A9/A9II/A7RIV.
I'm happy it works with those camera's though.
Mine is ordered - and i'm going to be more patient - until the A9III, A7RV or A6700 are comming (and we can pick up a used a9, A9II or A6600). Maybe the A7IV is another option within a few months.

I'm wondering if the MonsterAdapter(LA-EA4r) is actually sponsored/leaked/co-oped by Sony
So that they can test the market without any commitment

The LA-EA5 is in - did a quicktest with the Sigma 150-500 DG OS HSM + A7III - focus seems to work fine - the images are not great (hand held). I remember focus with the LA-EA3 was impossible (it kept on hunting) with this combo (though on an A7II).

In fact I am keeping the Sigma as the first reference for new camera's + converters. This works better than with the LA-EA4 due to more AF-points (i don't have my a6000 any more though).

There's not much time for playing these days - but i'll try to do some more during the weekend.

Ehm, A7III? Did I miss something? Does the LA-EA5 now work with the A7 mark 3?
[Edit: wait, it is a HSM (SSM) lens, the LA-EA5 will behave like a LA-EA3]

Also, the improvements are due to the camera body, my SSM lenses behave much better on the A7r4 then on the A7r2 with the same LA-EA3 adapter.

I haven't seen a side by side comparison between the LA-EA3 and LA-EA5 on the same camera body. I would be highly surprised if there was any difference.

Makes you wonder what the idea is behind the LA-EA5. Surely most screw-driven lens owners will not upgrade to A7Riv from older A7 models or FF A-mount. And Sony is not interested in older models (although A7iii is the latest A7 model it is 'fairly old') so I can't see firmware updates in my crystal ball.

Paul, it's indeed a tough marketing question. Would they make more money selling more LA-EA5's by updating the firmware on a few older A7 cameras or on selling more A7Riv's by not upgrading the older A7's ?

Given nothing has happened on the older A7's I think they're betting on the latter.

B&H sent me an email last night, saying the LA-EA5 was in stock and available. Mine is on the way, should arrive sometime next week! Now I need to do the firmware update on my a6600 to be ready. Will give my early impressions once I have it in hand.

I do not know if this offer is available in other in other European countries, but several Dutch stores offer a free LA-EA5 when you trade in an A-mount camera.

Great, I hope that people realize that this thing doesn't give screw lens AF with most E-mount cameras

What a strange offer from Sony to give a free LE-EA5 adapter, "developed especially for FF E-mount camera's", when you buy an APS-C A6400 or A6600
