Our Steam Locomotives are Scheduled to Pull the Train on the First Saturday of the month April-October
The Grand Canyon Railway celebrates the history of rail travel with several steam-powered excursions to Grand Canyon National Park each year. An operational steam locomotive can be a rare sight in the 21st Century, which is why we keep two fully-restored vintage steam locomotives in service to pull The Train on select dates throughout the year. Check the calendar to see which dates will feature either GCR No. 29 or GCR No. 4960 out in front of The Train. Note: During Steam Saturdays, only the 9:30 AM train will be a steam engine. ![]() ![]() ![]() will be adding more from time to time Coast Edited by Coast - 7 hours 32 minutes ago at 07:52 |

Always great to see these great heavy machines. Were all shots made on the same day? The first two look a bit cool and the last is a bit yellow. It has a "film look" btw. Or did the sun suddenly come in? Anyway, a joy to watch. Wish we could hear sounds too. TFS Joseph

Thanks Pieter
I'm working on them They are already running 2 trains a day, and then I heard about the steam trains. I made a Bee line down there. Regular running steamers for a train guy is as good as it gets ![]() ![]() Hi Michel All photos were taken within the same hour "5 to 6pm" I was moving fast trying to keep up w a locomotive! The sky seems to be very different at Grand Canyon altitudes than at sea level. All the colors are true. The sun at this elevation is ferocious, as the picture below is intended to demonstrate. Maybe you have seen some of the Grand Canyon sunset photos I have posted recently, taken early February. Note the long shadows ![]() Thank you, gentlemen |
