Fred, I am a bit surprised, I like the color version better. The psychology of photography has always fascinated me and I usually can quickly determine why I like one version versus another and it usually is not about a technical element so much as it is about mood and feeling. This time I am not sure why the preference for the color. It does present a softer, gentler feel to me. Thanks for posting the monochrome version.

Roger, I fully agree that mood and feeling is an important factor to like a picture or not, but is is hard to measure or describe.
I have a softer BW version too (which I may post somewhere else to avoid an overkill here )

That is a cool set of images - and the majority with the 70-400 - nice work! #2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 10 and 12 are my favourites with #2 3 10 and 12 being super for specific genres.

I'm in full agreement with Roger. For me, the pale pinkness in the sky lifts the colour version and it's subtley reflected in the puddle also. It presents as pale grey in the mono.
