Thank you everyone! I appreciate the advice and the PM! I'll give it a go again later. I woke up in the middle of the night here (mountain time) -- couldn't sleep worrying about how to do this and found your messages! Just kidding of course.

Part of the problem is I'm not using a Flicker of other hosting services that some of you are using. I have my own site on a Wordpress platform and use jAlbum to post. The thumbnails are there, but last time I created my own thumbnails, I just have to get the html formatting/tags correct for Dyxum -- getting the thumbnail to link to the original post.

BTW, I see many great photos posted by all of you and will do some commenting once I get my thumbnails posted. I only did 5 days myself. One day we had visitors all day, and the next days my photos were bad and not worth posting. And most of the week the weather was not good -- lots of snow. Excuses, excuses! This challenge also reminded me how spoiled I've become by auto focus. Manual focus with @ 1.4 where you can have razor thin DOF can be a true challenge, especially when your subject is a cat. And if you have a cat, you know they are not going to pose for you! Especially not a 6 month old kitten (Touoces) Captain Paws is 15 years old, so not so active, but still not easy to capture with MF at f1.4. So much easier with AF, or even with a mobile phone! Shooting other subjects stopped down is easier, just using hyperfocal distance and the scale on the lens to get max DOF.

Regards,

Kelly

If Paul has a good way of explaining the process I'd like to see that to help others in the future. My problem is that I think making thumbnails that link back to the original post is very simple and therefore I am a bad teacher explaining it to people who struggle with it.

PM's sent to both you and Addy .

Though how some people have managed to post their thumbnails as a grid rather than a column is still beyond me !
Maybe I need a bigger PC screen ?!

Oh, btw, what is argote? And step four, now the image needed is what? The thumbnail? As I say, I'm not using Flicker, or any other photo hosting sites. For example, this is one of my galleries: https://www.rkdazet.com/Railroads/
I'm sure I'll figure this out. Thanks again for all the help.

This "Argote" stuff is only for Flickr users. Doesn't work for any other photo hosting site/method.

So in step 4 of "Paul's method" you have to use another method to get the "https://www.......... .jpg" web address of the thumbnail sized file, surround that by the {IMG} and {/IMG} tags (replace the { and } by [ and ]) and close the whole thing out by {/URL} at the very end (again replace the { and } by [ and ])

Thank you Pieter and All!
I see how it works now. The problem I have is, how is people get the Day number on the side of the image.
Also the thumbs page on my site uses larger thumbs for days 5, 6, and 7!
I need to figure out how to fix that.

Mine are all links? That is the reason I hate these, if you make a mistake it is really, really hard to find the fault. This is one of the reasons I never became a programmer.....

And I do not see the worth of the thumbnail thread, I never use it.

Okay, I copied the instructions from the first post of the thread, but that doesn't work. If I type it myself it does work. I hate debugging.

Will add more in a week as I am off for the coming week.

There's only two ways a dyxum post moves to the next line

1. When you hit the maximum width (~1100 pixels or less when your screen/window is smaller)
2. When there is an 'Enter'

The problem is that you can't see the 'Enters' in the white box where you type your post. But if the post moves to the next line before hitting the maximum width it's still there.

So if you want to start moving stuff onto one line you need to delete these 'invisible Enters' on the lines where your post moves to the next line but you want it to continue on the same line, i.e. the day number right in front of the photo rather than above it.

Yes, they are all links, but if you use 'ctrl C' / 'ctrl V' the chance of typing mistakes is small. You only need to make sure you don't inadvertedly delete or type over any of the square brackets or leave letters/symbols of what was there before in place.

The worth of the thumbnail thread is that people will be able to quickly find each participants entries in the daily threads for the exhibition voting. So unless you don't want to show up in the challenge exhibition the thumbnails are really needed. Otherwise all the voters have to wade multiple times through all the daily threads to select the ones from every participant they want to vote for.

Thank Pieter, I'll give it a try later.

I'm going to start my commenting with Day 1:

Pieter, I like the sharp Walking and Cycle Path sign with shallow DOF and interesting boheh balls. I have a couple copies of this lens, one I used for my first two days. I always like the rendering of this lens, but my copy had pretty sevier CA on my photo of the glasses. I also have the f1.2 version, though the aperture blades are stuck wide open so the DOF is even shallower.

Phil Wood, Windows at the old Chequers
Nice composition of interesting old windows! I always enjoy viewing and taking photos of windows and doors when we travel. I also have a copy of that lens which I purchase on eBay from the Netherlands many years ago.

Snegren, Circular Stairs. Great composition and use of the combo of the spiral staircase with shadows. And taken with the rare Shift CA 35mm!

Howard S, Boathouse
Interesting architecture with reflections in the glass!

Bigsi, Saltash Riverfront Lots of interesting detail from the foreground with boats and stepped wall to the interesting bridge in the background. These old Rokkors render very nicely on digital! I like this one a lot!

Micholand, Well-Lit
Wow, extreme Fish-eye! Nice! And I thought my 16mm Fish-eye Rokkor was extreme!

Mariuszlo Daffodil Very shallow DOF, maybe would still been shallow when stopped down?

Harald, Konica and Minolta cameras Beautiful cameras and great use of focus stacking, which is almost a must with a macro to get adequate depth of field The XE-7 was my favorite old Minolta camera. For day 4 I attempted to take a photo of mine with my chrome XE next to it and failed miserably using the 50mm f1.4(same as mounted on your XE-7)! would have needed stacking like yours. Plus I couldn't get close enough with that lens. Could have, should have used my Rokkor 100mm f3.5 macro with stacking. Great job!

Neilt3,
Rhododendron Beautiful flower! No way we would have that blooming here with all the snow we've had this year. I have the same MD 35-70 zoom and the matching 75-210, similar versions of both were two of the early Minolta AF zooms.

4Paul Train Power 135 Nice technical train stuff! You know I like that!

Alpha_In_Exile, A little Bubbly for Later. I hope you did enjoy the Bubbly later! 😊

Fred_S, Foggy Morning
Interesting silhouetted trees with shadows! Lots of detail front to back. That 28mm Rokkor did a nice job!

Wallendo, The less attractive side of a restaurant Film! Wow you are brave! I see that you did your own processing! That was still pretty fast turn around for photographing, processing, scanning and posting. Well the title is funny, and the photo subject, not so pretty, but interesting for sure! I hope it was safe back there! I actually have an SRT-201 in my Minolta collection. Kudos for shooting film! How do you like the Plustek?

Darosa,
The Texture of Glass
This is very interesting, very sharp at the point of focus and super blurry everywhere else. Very nice photo, though I know I'm looking at glass, I'm not sure what it is, though I suppose that should better be left up to the imagination!

Addy, Flora Nicely blurred and colorful background. I have the older f1.7 version of 85mm and I don't remember having that kind of background blur. Nice Minolta Rokkor rendering!
