On Wednesday I decided to visit Tamminiemi. The main building there is the former official residence of Finnish presidents. Since the death of the longest serving president, Urho Kekkonen, the house become a museum in his honour.

1. But the main reason to go there was not the main building, it was the fairly rare opportunity to visit what lies behind this door...

2. The bombshelter built during the short reign of Gustaf Mannerheim just after the world war II

3. Stairwell

4. Quite soon after completion it was found out that there was hardly any need for this facility and it was mostly forgotten

5. As evidenced by these rusty pipes

6. Next, I took a quick look at the famous Tamminiemi sauna, which was said to be a hotspot of politics and sauna diplomacy during the time (1956-1981) when Kekkonen was president

7. Then it was time to go to the main building, which looks like this from the seaside

8. The presidential office

9. Office corner

10. A globe

11. Sofa group in the living room

12. Table and chairs in the same room

13. Furniture in a room with a fireplace

14. I think this was a dining table

15. Chinaware in a cupboard

16. Kitchen

17. The other side of kitchen

18. A clock, a phone and some sort of control panel

19. Stairs

20. Upstairs study

21. Bathroom

22. Bedroom

23. TV Corner

24. Portrait of the former master of the house

25. Gazebo in the garden

You can see someone important lived here, for instance by #18. The kitchen looks very retro by nowadays standards, but great they preserved this all. TFS Heikki .
