"Moving on" to........ Sorry, Serdar - I know it's twisting words..... but I've been dying to use your emoticon, and this was just too good an opportunity to pass up. Three new emoticons down, and five to go..... |

2 years ago I was told that the A700 replacement wasn't going to be pitched as a direct 7D competitor. Of course there is nothing that says that Sony can't add in another (pro) model above the A700 replacement when they feel ready. |

I don't see price being the telling factor in terms of which cameras it will compete against, particularly as Sony have stated that without the complex mirror mechanism their costs are reduced considerably. Of course, w'll have to wait and see, but surely having similar build quality (weather sealed?), higher spec AND lower cost just makes it more competitive, not less? |

NEX and SLT are the first time Sony actually grabbed a mentionable market share in Japan. And thy sell great around the world. Outside from Europe no Sony DSLR could ever come close to the market share of it's Canon, Nikon counterparts. Even the A560/A580 don't show big results on most markets. You can argue that Pentax also keeps making an enthusiast camera for that like no market exists (even Olympus does). That's not how Sony runs it's business. They rather gamble place a innovative new product than trying to gain market in percentages over decades. |

So it seems like the a77 won't have 24p.
Really Sony? |

I think you are missing the point that seems to be coming almost unavoidable now... If you want a traditional base of cameras (Optical Viewfinder with "some" video capabilities and the classic SLR type interface) then go with CaNikon. If you are open with to the majority of your (new) body choices being SLT with a couple (or possibly none) available as OVF then stay with Sony. There is little (Nothing??) to indicate otherwise.. |

http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/sr5-first-worldwide-picture-of-the-final-a77-and-a65-production-models/ Among others. I suspect SonyAlphaRumors is the "breaking" site, where the info first came public. Most seem to use the SAR images, and the same data. - Steve S. |

Did anybody else notice this pattern?
Maxxum 7D 6 MP 2005 Alpha 700 12 MP 2007 Alpha 77 24 MP 2011 Following this pattern, we can expect to get the a77 successor in 2019, and it will have 48 MP Isn't extrapolating data so much fun? |

And from that pattern, what do you extrapolate the name to be? |

No, no, no. You've got it all wrong! The chip will follow a doubling pattern, it's true (6-12-24-48). However, the timetable will be linear: not a gap of 2-4-8 years but 2-4-6 years; and at that, they'll have to hold it back a year, just to get an adequate whine going online about "overdue" products. - Steve S. (btw -- I like your move, here, over to the successor to the a700-successor...) |

I decided to assume an exponential pattern for the years. According to the pattern we have, the sensors add 3 MP per year. If that continues, it would give the following pattern for the years, 2-4-8. |

A700, Sig 10-20, 17-70, 24 f2.8 400 f5.6 telemacro, Min 85 f1.4, 50 f1.7, 70-210, Cosina 100 macro,

Why can't Sony just keep the same name, and just have differing generations? Eventually they're gonna run out of number combinations. |
