And the last four:

hello

Oh, the elephant is on a restaurant sign.

And okay, okay, I know I have a weakness for postcard views but those are the kind of scenes I like to remember a place by. The kind of places you linger longer.

The following are my three sets of 4. I shot a 36 exposure roll of Kodak Tri-X 400 and I used a Minolta Maxxum 9 with either a Minolta 85mm f1.4 and my Min 50mm 1.7 (for most).

@Miranda F ... beautiful set from Madeira. Now I need to visit that part of the world. My wife is part Portuguese, so warrants a stop. I love the city views the most! I love those colors. I haven't shot color film in years (decades?), but I do have a roll of Kodak Ultramax in my Maxxum 9 right now. I don't think I'll be able to shoot and process before this challenge wraps, but it sounds like we have some flexibility with the end date.

@All ... look forward to more pics!

Thanks. I've tried ultramax and a few others, but for my taste Kodacolour Gold has been my colour negative film of choice since it came out. As you say, the colours are nice - neither weak nor over-saturated and with a good colour balance. Looking at the 4Mb scans the lab gave me, I'm particularly impressed by the tone curve which   shows detail into the blacks and well into the clouds as well. For me, the closest print film to my favourite Ektachrome slide film.

I have not adjusted the colours at all from the scans, btw, just pulled the tone curve very slightly to correct the digitisation, and cropped some of the shots on one edge too. In bright sunlight, it's actually rather nice to go back to the hassle-free film camera which needs so much less fiddling about to give good results than a digital camera, though in overcast conditions the greater contrast of digital wins hands down.

Thanks for the additional info about Kodacolor, Miranda. I used to be a Kodacolor user too, but it's very hard to find here in the U.S.

I only shoot 3 or 4 rolls a year nowadays, but I still love the film shooting process -- old school "slow photography". I love the buzzing and whirring of an AF SLR, and the extra care I take with exposure and composition before pressing the shutter because it costs me $1 a frame!!

IKWYM!
I'm thinking I might take more rolls of film this year and just get a CD.

Just loaded my first film last weekend and hav to complete it the coming days.
My initial lust to join was bigger that the current appetite somehow. Even ordered some extra film, but that will probably stay unused until next year.

And beyond! I have at least one more project to run a film through a camera and use some of the old Minolta Expansion Cards. All I need is the time to learn what they do and plan the pix ...

I'm totally fine with adding 30-60 days, or even through December, ha! It'll give me an incentive to keep shooting film from time to time. I do have that Ultramax loaded, ready to go.

I haven't loaded B&W film yet, nice to see everyone else has, obviously it's time for me! The title is film challenge 2019 so it sounds like a year-long project to me?....

Miranda: WOW, those are very beautiful shots and I really love the color. I'm still going through a bunch of Fuji I already had but I WILL get a roll of Gold in there somewhere this year. And by the way, I think those so called postcard scenes are fabulous! You have mad a great mini travelog.

ADub128: Great B&W shots, I think the people shots show the film's contrast very well. The little spark in the eyes of People #3 is sweet. Did you process the film or have a lab do it?

Everyone: I'm really glad this thread got started and it's wonderful to see all these film images.

I currently have 4 rolls to get to the lab. I am finding that I'm enjoying the return to film more than I expected. I've been carrying both digital and film when I head out the door.

I really hope this challenge lasts the rest of the year - I still have a bunch more bodies and lenses to go!
