Howard, a powerful although rather bleak looking image. Reminds me a bit of a frame from a gritty David Lean Dickensian themed movie.
I wonder about these treeless vistas. Is it a natural thing due to altitude, or because all the trees were felled over the centuries for building and fuel? |

Thanks very much, Joe. St David's Head is an exposed and rocky headland; here we are not more than 50m above sea level. Perhaps in prehistoric times there was denser vegetation, and ancient settlements and field systems have been found nearby. FYI I was here, on the green dotted path on the south side of the headland.
I channelled my inner Bill Brandt for this one (there's a nod to the coal-searcher photo here), but of course it's nowhere near as striking - and there's no coal to search for out at St Davids Head! |
