For those of you who know maritime history especially British, you will know the Goodwin Sands off the Kent coast as treacherous and the graveyard of some 2000 ships.

But here in Aussie, the Goodwin Sands off Mallacoota, Victoria are a lifesaver in the current catastrophe.

I have photos from the area I am in of the bushfires and etc and am going through processing the. Nothing as dramatic as the images in the current emergencies. Totally devastating and horrifying.

Horrendous news of death and destruction in the face of these unprecedented fire storms.
Including news of volunteer firefighter's death in truck rollover when a fully laden 10 ton fire truck was literally flipped over by a fire generated tornado. The fires are so huge they are creating their own meteorological phenomena including fierce winds, thunder and lightning that triggers more fires.
I was shocked to read in today's paper that there had not been any controlled winter-time fuel reduction burn-offs in eastern Victoria for many years, thus allowing a significant build up of flammable material that's now ablaze.
Devastating.

Devastating and scary indeed. It's almost daily in the news here as well. Saw a little film of such a scary fire tornado. And now people have fled to the beach...
