HDR can be done in a way that doesn't look cartoonish. I use it to enhance my images.

1. Stairwell from a now destroyed look out tower.

2. Cypress tree roots. If you look close, a few of them look like alien bodies.

3. WWII era DC5 airplane.

Talking of aliens....

Alien Coast

If I recall, this is the little lump of England, just nort of Clacton. In fact, I think that's Clacton around about the top-middle 'rule of thirds' area. This pic was taken soon after my recently uploaded 'Alien Sky' pic.
Camera Model: NEX-5N | Lens: E PZ 16-50mm F3.5-5.6 OSS | Focal Length: 29 mm | Aperture: f/5.6 | undefined | ISO: 800

Gulfport (Florida, USA) Rec Center

2 shot hdr in LuminanceHDR, partially rectified in DxO
Samy 8fish f8 nex3
I only used 2 of the 3 shot bracket because I moved the camera after the first shot, no doubt shutter finger motion. Looks crisper than a 3 shot would have been.

Stanbury - I like it! The contrast really pops. In fact, I'd hardly say it was HDR at all. Maybe you could darken it jusy a touch?

Usemygoodeye - This one is subtle too. Well processed, I think

Ratboy - I remember the tram! The post card look comes through again - a nice bit of PP. The compo works for me with the perspective on the tram and the swooping tramlines.
