Isn't this situation the raison d'etre of Gaffer Tape?

It'll probably be a good idea to carry some.

I have been using a BLACKRAPID strap for many years with great success. Much more comfortable than the OEM strap.

They're a good option but the way they're fastened into the tripod socket of the camera, adds a few more steps to mounting on an actual tripod.

At the moment I've gone for the Peak Clutch Handstrap (Black Friday sale) and have the camera strap mounted to just the Tamron 150-500.
