Does anyone have a Tokina SD 35-200mm F4-5.6 AF?

It is very hard to find any information on this lens. I would appreciate any comments by an owner.

Thanks,

Gary

My dad has a moldy copy of the 35-200mm. I've used it with a Maxxum 7000 a couple of times. Since the copy I have was moldy, I cannot comment about any optical qualities of the lens. The AF did seem a little slow, but that was on the 7000, so I'm not sure how that translates to the digital bodies. Also, the minimum focus distance is a little long. I did enjoy the build quality of lens, as it is all metal, much like the beercan. I don't know what else you would like to know, but the length changes with zooming and focusing, and the filter rotates with focus.

Thanks Pawel. That's good info. Best to keep anything moldy away from your A700 and all your lens. I am hoping to get info on the image quality. I did find one user review at Adorama that gave it 4 stars out of 5. I'm trying to figure out if this lens is a rare treasure or not.

Don't worry Gary, the lens has never been mounted to the a700. For the most part, I have only heard good things about Tokina lenses, especially about the build quality. The only concern, is that 35mm is not very wide on a cropped sensor. I find that even the 28mm on my 28-75 is sometimes not wide enough.

I´ve just got a fresh example of this lens today with a bundle (Min 135 2,8, Min 50 1,7, Min 35-70 New plastic crap, Sig 73-300, and a KM 7D for 410 euro / 580 USD) quite a bargin I think. I will take the Tokina for a walk around the lake on my A700 now and maybe put up some samples here later. It has a kind of Beercan feel and I think I´m gonna like it

I bought this lens in new condition from a local camera store a year and a half ago for $75. It is heavy metal constuction but very noisey. All in all it's not bad. I rarely use it since it really can't compare to the beercan. I should put it in my film camera bag since the focal lenghth would be better for full frame.

Hmmm it seems a bit soft at a first look no editing, JPEG straight out of the camera

200 mm, 1/800 sec, f 5,6 ISO 200

100 mm, 1/320 sec, f8 ISO 200

200 mm, 1/200 sec, f8 ISO 200

200 mm, 1/200 sec, f 6,3 ISO 200

I will keep it for a while and give it some more chanses but I don´t think it will stand up compared to the Sig 17-70 Beercan combo.
