i like the second picture a lot better. the first one is too HDR-ish for my taste.

The 1st one has a lot of motion blurr in the branches and leaves. Like Wilu stated, has a HDR feel to it. Not pretty. I am a bit of a purist perhaps, but white water just isn't meant to look like that. The opposite, when you freeze the motion of the water by short expose is also unappealing in such shots. Somewhere in between would do it for me.
The second one is very pretty and dreamy. Works for me. |

Lots of valid points there Snegren most of which I agree upon. If I was willing to take time I could clone the blurred spots out but I didn't think they were that much of a distraction but maybe they are. It does have a painting or HDR look which is why I used it for something different (HDR is not really to my taste either)and it had little processing apart from cropping, a little sharpening and colour correction (all minor tweaks).
I like the look of the water and I've only been using ND filters for a short time so am yet to find the ideal exposure time as per conditions. The water may look unusual because it's not really white water but more brown water due to the tannin leaching out of the surrounding forest something common to rivers in this part of the world. Anyway thanks for the critique and glad you like the 2nd one. Steve |
