To All Sony A900 / A850 full frame owners.

I have been in communication with a company based in Hong Kong to manufacture an L-plate to suit A900 / A850 +battery grip after I contacted RRS looking to purchase an L-plate for this model of Sony Camera.

Unfortunately the owner of RRS replied advising that they were not interested in manufacturing products to suit cameras that have been superseded and low sales volume.

I contacted Fittest Photo in Hong Kong as in their company profile they stated that no order was too small. I proceeded to contact them in April 2013 and advise that I was looking for an L-plate to suit Sony A900 / A850 + battery grip.

I received a reply from Fittest Photo and the contact Alan advised they would design up the drawings for their CNC machines and then make up a prototype to confirm fitment.

Earlier last week I received photos for the first prototype fitted just to the battery grip and late last week I received photos for the grip and L-plate fitted to the body.

I have just received permission to show the photo's of their prototype so that others who may like to advise them of Expressions of Interest in ordering one of these when complete.

I have been advised that the dimensions of the L-plate will fit and is compatible with the RRS Lever Release clamp style heads as Alan has confirmed to me and has advised that all their current L-Plates can be used with the RRS lever clamp.

Alan advised me that at this stage they have not yet confirmed a price, but they expect that it would be somewhere around the $158RRP.

Before I posted this here in the forum for other members, I HAVE obtained permission from Alan of Fittest Photo that it was ok to post them for other members to view and if they wished to contact Alan, they could do so via the email address on the Contact Page on their website.

I would also like to advise that I have also received permission from Dyxum Administrator to be able to post them here for other members to view.

These images below are of the first prototype of the L-plate from fittest photo.

Please be aware that these photos are not mine and copyrights belong to Fittest Photos and have been posted here with their permission.

Alan advised me that they are going to build a second prototype of the L-plate to make sure that fitment is correct.

If you would like to contact Alan to show your expressions of interest for the L-plate to suit the A900 / A850 + battery grip, or to provide some feedback, he has passed on his thanks in advance for them or any suggestions that he might receive.

Hope this helps all Dyxum members.

Regards,
Craig

Thanks for taking the initiative and then sharing the outcome, I'm expecting they'll receive many requests for that prototype but probably even more requests from owners of the a99, a77, and a700 to build them one.
But one issue I can see is that in #5 it seems the door for the battery tray can not be fully opened.
Did they say if the plate is made of steel or aluminum? I'm also curious about how well it fits the hand in portrait orientation? It does look quite wide at the bottom where it flares out.

G'day Rob,

Yes they are aware of the battery door not opening correctly, and that is one of the corrections for the second prototype.

To my knowledge it will be made of aluminum, but I'm sure that Alan would be able to answer that.

It is made to the standard Arca-swiss design and is RRS compatible to work with their heads. It looks very similar to that of the RRS plates that I have purchased.

Regards,
Craig

P.S. Just checked their other versions they have available and they state "Custom made one-piece bracket machined from light weight 6061T651 Aluminum".

So I can only assume that the A900/A850 version will be the same. And the one from RRS are also made from Aluminum.

@horizon and Alan: Thanks for your proactive activities. YES, I WOULD be interested in L-Plates for the A900/A850 + Battery Grip and, possibly, the A700 + Battery Grip. If either you, horizon or Alan, can get reasonably firm prices and the specifics concerning the importation of such L-Plates, I would be obliged.

FYI, I am in the United States.

Respectfully,

Jocelynne Littlebear

PS. I always find pleasure when the private citizen takes the initiative. I do admire your attitude.

I encountered an amusing remark on the Net, the other day. It said, "If you think that you are too small to make a difference, you have never been in the dark with one mosquito."

I have one of these (slightly different design). Anybody need it? P.M. me on price and stuff.
Can't seem to add an image BUT the unit is a fittestphoto-fa900l. Side of bracket is solid, not splayed to allow for battery access.
