Is there a huge difference between the two?
I have the Kenko and just bought the Minolta 300/2.8 HS APO Should I start looking for the Minolta Converter? |

I have both the Minolta APO 2X and Tamron SP/Kenko PRO 300 2X and yes, there is significant difference between the 2 especially at the corner/edge.
Minolta APO is much better. Please see below for test comparions: 200/2.8 + APO 2X vs Tamron SP 2X (Kenko Pro 300) Center ![]() 200/2.8 + APO 2X vs Tamron SP 2X (Kenko Pro 300) Edge ![]() |

This really makes me want to get the AF working properly on my Minolta 2X, rather than the micro hunting (if that's the correct description) that I mentioned in my thread in the Teleconverter section. I'm curious now about what causes microhunting, which I've since seen described in a similar manner with some 85 1.4's and one 300/4, where the AF is flicking back and forth but the camera will still take a shot. I wonder what happens to make the camera allow the shutter to fire while it's set to focus priority, even though the AF is still hunting back and forth?

I haven't read your other thread, but I have had the 85/1.4 original and the G D version both at the same time and the G D micro hunted. I sold it and kept the original for a while. I really want it back but I now have the 300/2.8 and that is my baby for now.
I'll go look for your thread on the converters and see what you are talking about with your converter. Have you used different converters without any problem or could it be just your combination? |
