This is the training centre aka Outtakes thread of Day Prime 2015
Maybe there are more people like me who want to get the feel of a lens (again) and experiment a bit. Day Prime is a great challenge imo but it's only one day for each FL. You have to be there on that day, or wait another year ... This thread lets you post on other days too. And lets you post shots that you don't want to post in the main photo thread. And maybe talk about your lens(es) of choice? |

Day 16 will be my 1st day. Zenitar 16mm Fisheye with ND10 long exposure filter. As Fisheyes don't accept filters at the front I had to make one that mounts at the back. I sacrificed the green filter from the filter set that comes with the lens as I needed the screw-in ring. I ground down a resin ND10 (can’t remember the make, greenish colour cast that is not too disasterous) to a 21 mm circle and glued it in the green filter ring. It is claimed that the rear filter is part of the optical design but I use the Zenitar at F16 on tripod and focus is not a problem, perhaps it is wide open but I don’t intend to use the lens there because it is not good wide open. This way the filter gives me a usefull 1 minute exposure in full daylight at ISO 100.
A year ago I would have frowned upon curved horizons, but I took a liking to fisheye distortion during Oktoberfest and decided to get one. For less than 200 euro delivered (including M42 to Alpha adapter) the Zenitar is affordable, optically acceptable but a bit plasticky and fiddly. What a great idea, striking images. I've often wondered how to use filters on fish eyes, I suppose you could use the same principal to use nd grads as well. (Not that you need it these)

I think 3 stop hard grad ND will be my next project (as I am a sunrise/sunset fan). But due to curvature of the image the split of the grad has to be dead center, the only place where the lens keeps straight lines straight. And even a hard grad will be soft because the filter is so small. And I need two (one horizontal, one vertical) as the filter doesn't rotate. Well, perhaps too ambitious. I can always bracket and blend…….

What a beautiful opening of Day Prime 2015! Excellent idea and great execution Paul.
I might borrow your idea on Day 8 with the APS-C Samyang 8/2.8 and holding a 82mm ND in front of it ... |

Here's my Day 5 shot:
Cine lenses, a modest collection Photo made with: Pentax Q7 + Schneider-Kreuznach Cinegon 5,5/1.8 D-mount; 7 photos stitched Not an E- or A-mount camera so only fit for the Outtakes. It's a pity Sony doesn't make a camera like the Pentax Q, the only digital camera with a register short enough to accommodate D-mount lenses (cine lenses for 8mm film cameras). Those tiny D-mount lenses are really miracles of engineering and it's great fun to use them and give them a new lease of life. |

Trying out my Pentacon 29. My 1st camera was a Praktica with Pentacon 50 and 29, both multi coated. In the late 80ties they went into a box to move house and have not been seen since. So I decided to source a new one, this time an oldie, so no MC.
Looking to be saved Camera Model: SLT-A99V Lens: Pentacon auto 2.8/29 Focal Length: 29 mm Aperture: f/5.6 Exposure Time: 0.011 sec (1/90) ISO: 100 |

Training with my Dörr 8 f:3.5 (Samyang re-brand) on day 3. Unfortunately lousy weather the 8:th so the training was better.
Sony A77. 1/40s, ISO 3200. f:5.6 (i think). This picture show that the A77@ISO 3200 is not unusable I think, anyway if DXO Optics Pro PRIME is used. |

A lovely day for a walk in the dunes. Meijendel near The Hague. The physical discomforts (Sciatica) are sort of behind me I hope (the pain is gone, the leg feels slightly wobbly and numb but moves as I command it). A good opportunity for some day 20 practice.

Day 18 outtakes.
The first one is a definite outtake, considering it was accidentally taken @ 50mm. Walked out the door with the wrong lens. |

Practicing for day 20 with the Sony 20F2.8:
