The first reference to Heusden dates back to 722. In the 13th Century the town was granted City right. In the 16th Century the city was destroyed by the Spanish during the 80 year war. At the end of the 16th Century it was rebuilt in the current configuration with earthen walls, bastions and a moat. In the 1960s a project was started to restore the city to its original glory. The harbour area of the city features three grain mills that appear to be historic but were built in the 1970s.

Beautiful photos of mill no. 1 - but mill no. 2 is kind of a puzzle: often mentioned, never seen. Does it exist at all? (Sorry, I felt tempted).

BTW: #1 is my clear favorite showing the environs!
