I've done some testing on this lens with the 1.4x EX APO (not DG) teleconverter. Here are some 100% crops at a range of apertures, all 420mm, ISO100 on the A100, no USM, shutter as indicated.

f/5.6, 1/1250s

f/6.3, 1/1250s

f/7.1, 1/1000s

f/8, 1/800s

f/9, 1/640s

Example with the Sigma 1.4x EX APO teleconverter, ISO200, 300*1.4=420mm, f/5.6*1.4=f/8, ISO200, 1/320s, AF-S.

Sorry a tad of PP on these, except the last one. A little sharpen, as you can see in the original sized shots its not alot though:

KM D5D + Sigma 100-300/4 with tripod. 300mm, F/8, 1/13s (note the shutterspeed), ISO 200
Original size

KM D5D + Sigma 100-300/4 + Tripod. Exif: 300mm, F/5, 1/125s, ISO 200
Original size

Testshot (sorry about the silly angle):

Original size
KM D5D + Sigma 100-300/4 + Sigma 1.4 TC + Tripod
Correct exif: 420mm (full zoom), F/5.6 (wide open), 1/640s, ISO 200
Raw converted to jpg "save for web", no PP what so ever.

This at 300mm F/4 (cant remember if I used TC so lets say no tc) 1/60s, tripod, 200% crop:

Cheers / Alve
