I forgot to say : the Godox flashes work like a charm with the A7 II equipeed wiht a wireless trigger. A Godox flash for panasonic works like a charm wirelessly : TTL or manual remotely controlled. My equipment ties me to the godox brand, not Sony, except for one multi interface hot shoe. That's the wrong part = the flash shoe is extremely fragile, regarding the contacts. And the plastic of my V860 broke, which a 15 USD e-bay replacement fixed. Sonny pade a big mistake for use photographers by dropoing the old minolta shoe.

That is not the real problem. The problem was the flash connecting to the hotshoe. It was only hold by a very small plastic pin. With the flash itself so high and heavy, the plastic pin was of no use, the flash just "walked" of the hotshoe. It was unworkably for me and I swopped the flash for a the newer model.

Happened to me while shooting a wedding. Beside the fact that my flash was damaged, I felt SO embarrassed ...

I think I should join this support group. Being use to the auto lock shoe I kept forgetting to lock the Multi interface shoe.

The 5400HS won't have full functionality with the a99 (I or ii) - it'll work as a basic flash gun on my a99i but that's about it I'm afraid. Shame as otherwise it's a fine unit.
My Mantra: "Comment on other's work as you would wish to have yours commented upon". Go on - it's fun!

What about the Sony HVL-58AM or HVL-56AM? How about the Minolta 5600HS(D) OR 5400HS? The Minolta flashes can be had for pretty cheap. You'd need the Sony ADP-MAA adapter. I use the Sony HVL-58AM and Minolta 5600HS(D) with the adapter and they work just fine.

I have a Godox V860 II S, a Godox TT350 S and a Neewer NW880 S (same as Godox TT685S but cheaper). All work like a charm in all A77 II modes, also as masters or slaves; except the TT350 in TTL at close range : "ADI Flash" greatly underexposes (mode entering lens focus distance in the exposure calculation) Works fine if switched to "Pre-Flash TTL" All highly recommended.

Think that is a good choice. Well done and enjoy.

I have a V1 and it's a good flash, and the AK-R1 kit works well with it. The only drawback for me is that the AF assist lamp doesn't work, while the one on the V860ii-s does.
