Dear Dyxumers,

That was intersting competition - it was apparent, when counting all votes, that all voters have very different tastes and likes, however there was one photo which appeared on the voting list more frequently than the others, and no wonder that it earned the prize. Interestingly, this was the very last photo on the list. Well deserved recognition!

"Darkness diminished by light" by svjetlana

The Honourable Mention awards this time go to two excellent runner-up photos:

"Cows" by digiton

... and ...

"VrouweFridaCornelia" by onsplekkie

Congratulations to the winner and the HMs and thank you all for voting and participation in this DPC.

Happy shooting,
MiPr

As mentioned by MiPr, perhaps the term 'light', as a primary driver for photography amongst all of us, has so many different meanings for people. What is clear, however, is that for those few images where the image is 'just right' and, perhaps, connects at a more fundamental level, then we all see what 'works' and react in the same way.

The Winner is one of those images. The light is, most definitely, the main player here and, especially, the balance between the window and the light flooding across that wonderful floor. However, for me, it is also about the use of so much 'negative space' - all that darkness across the frame - that really elevates this to another level. I've not been a great lover of negative space in the past but, in this instance, I can see how it works and have to admire the way that the author has been brave enough to use it in this way. Well done Svjetlana!

As for the 'HM's' - they too are great images in themselves and show what I mean about individual interpretations of the theme. So different in themselves but so fitting the theme.

Well done everyone who competed and a fine result for the Forum!

Best regards, Neil.

Congratulations Svjetlana. I fell in love with that image the first time I saw it. I was struck by how each step was highlighted by a thin band of light. Very well captured. I also like the theological underpinnings of the title. How fitting!

The HM's are amazing in their own right. The skill level on display is truly wonderful.

Thank you so much to all of you for your kind comments!

Neil: thank you for your elaborate analysis of the image, as usual.

Basil: you are very close with your comment on many levels. Aside from a spiritual meaning of the title the physical location of the image is a very old church!

It is an interior not exterior of the building although it may look like it can be both.

I am very honored to win this DPC for so many reasons. One of them is that may name in Serbian language has a meaning "of light".

I also like very much images of Ton and Maarten. Big congratulations for both of your images.

P.S. Thanks Mirek for the announcement. It was a bit awkward to do it myself.
